Blast from the past

A chance meeting today with my old college tutor got me reminiscing about the early days of Fozzyweb.com.
I first launched Fozzyweb back in 1997 after my dad got some free webspace from our ISP. This was in the days of dial up internet, when we were ‘high-tech’ by having a 56k modem! I was doing my GCSE’s at school and the first few pages were created in (afraid to admit it now) Microsoft Word!
Anyway over the summer holidays things quickly progressed, I’d soon taught myself some rather garish design skills using PaintShopPro and Frontpage Express and the original Fozzyweb.com was born.
Come 1998 I started an IT course at college and soon realised Web Design was what I wanted to do but frustrating I seemed to be ahead of the game. It wasn’t until the 2nd year of my course that we even touched on Web Design and unfortunately it was quickly apparent that I was going to be more of the teacher in that class than the student!
Putting that aside, college was still a fantastic time and although I probably did learn a little bit more about life than anything else, I passed my course to a distinction grade.
Fozzyweb has been through many a different guise since those days, from the college days of Flash intros, animated gifs and a live streaming webcam to a professional portfolio and now a blog.
I might not be a Fozzy by name anymore but Fozzyweb has always been, and always will be, my little playground on the internet ;-)

New Fozzyweb: New Blog

What are you supposed to say when you start a new blog?
It’s a blog so I guess by it’s nature, there are no rules.
So why am I stuck?
I’m used to rules, I live by rules, so not having any is kind of scary!

Anyway, I was going to hide this site behind one of those lovely ‘Under Construction’ screens until it was all completely styled to perfection and I knew exactly what I was going to write; but thinking about it today I’ve figured that doing that kind of defeats the purpose of having a blog!

I’m a web designer, it’s what I do. I pull things apart and change my mind 100 times a day – so what better to blog about than the design and production of my own sites? Yes there may be some other ramblings inbetween but why should I keep the devolpment of this site a secret until my pride has satified itself enough to share it with the world?

No for once I’m going to be brave and admit that I am not perfect and that yes, I do make mistakes and that this design, like all of the projects I work on, will be a work-in-progress. Nothing is static, everything is fluid and all websites have to start somewhere.

As WordPress is my CMS of favour at the moment that is what we currently have – a basic installation of WordPress on my brand spanking new UK2 web space sporting the fantastic Thematic theme framework.

Where I go from here, nobody knows, but whatever happens next it will all be here for you all to see!
